You hit your profit target. Drawdown is fine. Every rule followed... and you still failed? Welcome to consistency rules - the silent account killer.

What Are Consistency Rules?

Consistency rules limit how much profit can come from a single day or single trade. The idea is to prove you're consistently profitable, not just lucky once.

Example with 30% consistency rule:

  • ❌ Day 1: +$800, Day 2: +$200 (80% from one day) = FAILS
  • ✅ Day 1: +$300, Day 2: +$250, Day 3: +$250, Day 4: +$200 = PASSES

Which Firms Have Consistency Rules?

No Consistency Rule ✅

  • FTMO
  • The5ers
  • Funded Next
  • E8 Funding
  • MyFundedFX

Has Consistency Rule ⚠️

  • My Forex Funds (30% rule) - now closed
  • Alpha Capital (40% rule)
  • Various smaller firms

💡 Simple Solution

If consistency rules frustrate you, choose a firm without them. FTMO and The5ers have no consistency requirements whatsoever.

How to Pass Consistency Rules

  1. Calculate your daily cap: 10% profit target with 30% rule = max 3% profit per day
  2. Stop when you hit the cap: Had a great day at 2.8%? STOP. Don't push for more.
  3. Spread it out: Plan for 5-7 trading days minimum
  4. Track daily P&L: Know exactly where you stand at all times

Why Do Firms Use Consistency Rules?

Firms want traders who can:

  • Produce steady returns over time
  • Not rely on one lucky trade
  • Demonstrate a repeatable edge

It's actually a reasonable requirement - but it does add complexity to your challenge.

Our Take

Unless you specifically want to prove consistency for your own development, we recommend choosing firms without this rule. Why add extra complexity when you don't have to?
